Education Minister meets Limavady and Dungiven Principals

Caitriona Ruane the Northern Ireland Education Minister hosted a dinner for local school Principals at the Radisson SAS Hotel in Limavady on Tuesday night.
EDUCATION Minister, Caitríona Ruane has met with Principals from schools in the Limavady and Dungiven area to discuss reforms in the education system.
This is one of a number of meetings the Minister has had with Principals across the north of Ireland. The Minister said: "Education is going through a period of essential change and it is good to hear the views of Principals who are at the forefront in education.
“In Limavady and Dungiven we have examples of strong leadership in our schools, where progressive thinking can provide solutions that other areas can replicate.
“The Roe Valley Learning Community has been established to help schools provide our young people with the widest range of educational opportunities and I commend the dedication of all involved.
"The meetings I have been holding with Principals have given me the opportunity to outline the education reforms I am progressing, including my proposals on post-primary transfer arrangements and to hear their views on these key issues.
“One of the areas I have been discussing with principals is the view that 11 is too young to subject children to tests and 14 is a better age to make important decisions and decide on educational pathways.
“These pathways will be based on informed decisions taken by the young people in conjunction with parents and teachers.
“I would thank the Principals for the important work they do in our schools and for taking the time to meet me."
