Mrs Michelle Devenney and her son Glenn looking at the body of their beloved pet dog ‘Ben’ who was killed in a vicious attack by a Staffordshire Bull Terrier in Limavady at the weekend.
A LIMAVADY family have been left traumatised after their pet dog 'Ben', whom they'd owned for 13 years, was savagely mauled and killed by a stray Staffordshire Bull Terrier in their own back garden at the weekend.
The Devenney family were also deeply shocked and concerned to discover that the vicious animal in question could not be destroyed as it hadn't attacked a human being.
Brian Devenney, from Anderson Cresent, said: "I have two children, a boy of 14 and a wee girl of 19 months and it was just pure luck that they weren't in the garden when this attack happened.
“In fact if it been just an hour or so later, the kids definitely would have been in the garden, and who knows what could have happened."
Mr Devenney explained that he was awakened on the morning of Saturday (June 14) by the sound of barking, and knew it wasn't his own dog Ben.
On looking out the bathroom window Mr Devenney was met an horrific sight.
He said: "When I looked out the window, this vicious Staffordshire Bull Terrier was roaming around the garden with blood on its chest while our dog Ben lay lifeless in a pool of blood."
He quickly alerted his family as to what was happening as he ran downstairs with his son, but by the time they got outside their beloved pet dog was already dead.
