Dungiven residents turn out in force

OUTRAGED Dungiven residents attended a meeting at Limavady Council on Tuesday night to express their anger as a proposed Civic Amenity site near Bleach Green was put on the table again.
At the Environmental Services Committee meeting, it was agreed that the Chief Executive of the council, along with senior council officers, will organise a meeting with a group of local residents to discuss the matter further.
Council has been attempting to find a suitable location for Dungiven's Civic Amenity Site for the past 12 years.
According to regulations, the site must be within the boundaries of Dungiven, but some councillors have questioned why the site couldn't be outside the town.
Sinn Fein's Paddy Butcher pointed out that the facility at Garvagh is outside town boundaries.
He added: "Perhaps the solution for this problem is right under our noses. We should find out how Coleraine Council managed to organise the Garvagh site and see if we could do the same for Dungiven."
Councillor Boyd Douglas, who chaired the meeting, said: "I think that someone is going to be unhappy no matter what we do.
“I have been contacted by a number of people regarding this issue and there seems to be some misconceptions about what exactly a civic amenity site involves. There is a lot of incorrect information out there."
