Spread festive cheer on ‘Road to Hope’
Thursday, 24 November 2016
LOCAL residents are being urged to spread some Christmas cheer among people in Eastern Europe by supporting the annual Road to Hope Shoebox Appeal. Limavady is home to the charity's sorting office which receives shoeboxes from across the province as well as parts of Co Donegal for checking, sorting and distribution.
As its 2016 deadline approaches this Friday, November 25, local co-ordinator Clare Wheeldon is seeking volunteers to help at the sorting station. Alternatively anyone wishing to help a child or adult can do so by making their own shoebox gift.
Claire explained: "Last year, kind-hearted people from across the province donated 11,000 gift-filled shoeboxes, all of which passed through Limavady on their way to Eastern Europe.
“The lorries which take these wonderful gifts to those who need them will be passing through the Roe Valley soon so we need to have all the shoeboxes, sorted, checked and ready for shipping by this Friday.
“While those tasked with checking the boxes must be over 18, there are plenty of other jobs which have to be addressed.
“It would be a great experience for local youth groups and clubs or those with some spare time on their hands.
“You can volunteer for any length of time you wish, whether its 10 minutes or two hours - every second makes such a huge difference."
