Ballykelly community 'devastated' following oil theft

Thursday, 9 February 2017

BALLYKELLY Community and Youth Association chairperson Tina McCloskey has said that members have been left "devastated" after thieves cut pipes at the centre and stole heating oil. Police are also appealing for information regarding the incident which occurred sometime between Saturday January 28 and Friday February 3.
Tina explained: "On Thursday evening we arrived at the community for bingo. The hall was freezing and we found it hard to believe we could be out of oil already.
“Around 70 to 80 people attend our bingo sessions every week. When the care taker went out to check the oil, he discovered our pipes have been cut and some oil had been stolen. It is absolutely disgusting to think someone would this," she added.
“Ballykelly Community and Youth Association provide meaningful and recreational activities to the young and old people of our community. For someone to attack that is unbelievable."
All activities at the centre were cancelled until repairs to the pipes were made on Saturday evening.
