Local athletes to put fitness to the test thumbnailKarla Harkin is one of CrossFit Limavady’s female competitors at this year’s CrossFit Open which kicks off on Friday night.

CROSSFIT Limavady looks set to be the place to be for the next five weeks as it plays host to the biggest fitness related competition in the world. The 2017 Reebok CrossFit Open will see hundreds of thousands of athletes go toe to toe in a 'true test of fitness'.
The CrossFit Games Open, or 'the Open' as it is more commonly referred to, is the preliminary qualifying stage of the CrossFit Games.
It unites CrossFit communities around the world and allows individuals to put their fitness to the test whilst providing a comparison with the best athletes in the world, other members in your gym and more importantly, yourself.
As the name suggests, the open is accessible to everyone. Entrants are split into categories according to gender, age and experience/ability level (RX or scaled), which ensures scores are compared against appropriate competitors. In 2016, 324,000 people registered, ranging in age from 14-83 years!
CrossFit Limavady coach and local man, Andy Chapman says the event tests, "proper fitness."
