DUP stay on top thumbnailEast Londonderry MP Gregory Campbell congratulates George Robinson MBE and Maurice Bradley on their election success.

THE DUP have maintained their status as the largest political party representing East Londonderry in Stormont, despite Sinn Fein's Caoimhe Archibald topping the polls. This was always going to be a difficult election for the political parties of Northern Ireland following the announcement of the snap election by NI Secretary of State, James Brockenshire, six weeks ago.
The passing of the Assembly Members (Reduction of Numbers) Bill 2016 meant that the number of MLAs returned to Stormont, would be reduced from 108 to 90.
It was a long and strenuous day for all the parties involved at the Foyle Arena count centre on Friday, March 3. Given the fact that the number of seats in the constituency were reduced from six to five, casualties were certain, however the winners and losers were not!
Former Mayor of Coleraine, Maurice Bradley, and Limavady's own George Robinson MBE, were both re-elected on the ninth stage of the count whilst party colleague Adrian McQuillan was eliminated on the same count.
