Second defeat in a week for Roesiders

Limavady United ........................ 1
IT has been over two years since Limavady United lost consecutive league fixtures, but on Saturday they slumped to a second defeat in a week, seeing their lead slashed to just two points.
However, unlike the capitulation to Newry the previous week, there were extenuating circumstances, as the Roesiders played for over an hour with ten men following the dismissal of their goal keeper, and finally succumbed to late goals after stoic resistance.
United went into the game without centre half Crown, but welcomed back Hugh Carlin.
Although the midfield looked quite light for the second week running, the visitors started brightly and McCloskey shot wide after being put in by Hume.
Disaster struck United in the thirteenth minute, when Wells collided with Taggart just outside the box as the latter was through on goal after collecting a ball over the top, and referee Mahon went straight to his pocket for the red card.
Wells could have no real cause for complaint, but his departure transformed the task facing his team, as Harkin was withdrawn for replacement keeper Ray Kelly, and Hume was left as only man up front.
For the rest of the half United coped well, and there was no obvious advantage for the home side.
Kelly had only one moment of relative anxiety, when a 25th minute free kick went wide of his post. By contrast, United had chances.
First Owens had a long range shot on 33 minutes, and just before the break McCloskey's long ball over the top found McCready, whose shot was not far off the target.
But the visitors really should have scored when Owens right foot cross from the edge of the box caught Carlin off balance at the back post and he headed wide.
