Council appoints third female mayor thumbnailCllr Joan Baird is the new Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.

CAUSEWAY Coast and Glens Borough Council has appointed a female mayor for the third time in its three year existence. The Ulster Unionist Party's Joan Baird said she was honoured and privileged to represent citizens of such a beautiful area, as she took over from Alderman Maura Hickey at last night's (Monday) Annual General Meeting.
“I promise to do all in my power in the year ahead to ensure we are recognised as a highly successful and vibrant council which delivers for its people," she added.
Councillor Baird, who hails from Ballintoy, spent most of her working life as a manager and then assistant director at the Northern Ireland Housing Executive.
She has also lectured at the University of Ulster and is a past Chair of the Chartered Institute of Housing for Northern Ireland and Clanmill Housing Association.
Elected to Moyle District Council in 2011 and then the Causeway Coast and Glens shadow council in 2014 ahead of local authority mergers one year later, Councillor Baird was made an OBE after being named on the Queen's New Year's Honours List two years ago for services to housing and the community.
