Slaughtneil complete the set

SLAUGHTNEIL completed the big treble in Derry again when their camogie team retained the county senior title. Their hurlers and footballers also held on to their county crowns and now they will aim to do the Ulster treble as they did last year. In the camogie final at Glen in front of a big crowd they beat Ballinascreen in a repeat of last year's final by 5-17 to 2-9.
A goal from Therese Mellon in the fourth minute set them on their way to victory and with the wind behind them built up a 1-7 to 0-4 lead. Ballinacreen fought back well with a Mary Hegarty goal and were 1-9 to 1-5 behind when Loiuse Dougan converted a penalty to open up a seven point lead at the interval.
A third goal on the restart from Eilis Ni Chaiside put the game beyond the Balinascreen girls. A second converted penalty from Louise Dougan and a well taken goal from Offaly county player Tina Hannon sealed the deal despite another well taken goal by Mary Hegarty for the gallant losers.
Meanwhile in the Ulster Intermediate camogie championship Derry champions Ballinderry lost narrowly to Antrim champions Glanravel by 2-5 to 2-4. Glenravel started well and went into a 1-2 to nil lead but Ballinderry who had won the Derry title just three days earlier fought back to go in front by half time. Ballinderry were 2-4 to 1-5 in front but were denied by a late Kirsten Edgar goal and lost by 2-5 to 2-4.
Back to Slaughtneil again and their hurlers are through to the reserve final with a 2-15 to 1-7 victory over Ballinascreen.
