Bad day at the office for Limavady United thumbnailLimavady United player manager Paul Owens in action against Newry on Saturday.

Limavady United............1 Newry City.............3

THIS was a game from which Paul Owens will have hoped to take points but by the end of possibly their worst display this season, they were a well-beaten side, thanks to gifting the visitors all three goals though individual errors. However credit to Newry whose under strength side were far superior and never looked in any danger after taking the lead.
Robbie Hume was looking to break a club record as fastest to score 50 goals for the club and he nearly achieved the feat in the 21st second as a ball, over the top, fell perfectly for him but the rookie keeper, in only his second game, was alert and rushed off his line to block. From that promising start, the home side put hardly any pressure on until the last ten minutes.
The visitors had a chance in the seventh minute when Wells bravely came for a cross and collided with McCabe, resulting in both requiring treatment.
Newry were incensed that they were not awarded a penalty and their manager was sent from the dugout for his protests.
For the next 20 minutes, both sides were evenly matched but gradually, City exerted control over the midfield and United were reliant on Crown and Watt to break up several attacks. United were unable to hold the ball and kept running in the trouble in the midfield.
It was on 27 minutes that Watt was unfairly penalised for a challenge outside the box and Walker took the free kick which went through the wall, skidded across the surface to Wells who failed to hold the ball and he hooked it back over the line but the goal was correctly given.
