Shackleton Heathrow Airport bid takes-off!

Thursday, 9 November 2017

SHACKLETON Barracks is in the running for a role in the 16bn expansion of Heathrow Airport.
Earlier this year, airport bosses invited communities and companies from across Britain to pitch for the chance to host one of four 'logistics hubs' which will see work linked to the third runway plan carried out off-site. This week, Shackleton's owners MJM Group confirmed they submitted a bid earlier this year.
The Newry-based firm, which has now joined a long list of 121 candidates, says the tender process is still at an early stage but promised more information as the bid progressed.
The application was accompanied by a letter of support from Causeway Coast and Glens Council suggesting a logistics hub would represent "a major contribution to the local economy."
The hubs will pre-assemble components off-site before transporting them to London. Part of their rationale is to minimise disruption around Heathrow for local people, airlines and passengers.
