Grant cut slammed thumbnailLCDI.

THE cutting of a small grants scheme by the Department of Communities (DoC) has been labelled "disingenuous" and "extremely disappointing" by a local community organisation. As reported in last week's Constitution the DoC stated it is to scrap the Volunteering Small Grants Scheme, set up to help community groups across the Province.
Joanne Kinnear, Manager of Limavady Community Development Initiative (LCDI), has hit out at the decision.
Joanne told the Northern Constitution: "At best we believe the Department's response to be disingenuous as the current year is year two of a four year cycle all of which are covered by the Ministerial approval provided prior to the four year contract being awarded. Our understanding of this position is supported by the letter we received from the Department of Finance on 09-03-2017 confirming the commencement of year two of the contract. Recent correspondence from Nigel Dodds MP confirms that Paul Givan MLA's understanding of the position is also that, whilst Minister, he approved a four year scheme."
