CLOSE to 200 CrossFit athletes converged in Limavady last weekend to take part in the North West Fitness Championships Same Sex Pairs competition at CrossFit Limavady. The event ran over two days with scaled athletes taking to the floor on Saturday, followed by the RX (Elite section) and Masters on Sunday.
The event culminated with a fantastic play off for first place in the RX Females section 'Between Thick and Thin' (headed by CrossFit Regionals star Emma McQuaid) and 'Old Chicks', a team made up of Lisa Curran from CrossFit Derry and RCFNI athlete, Rebekah Thompson.
Both teams finished on the same points, winning two WODs each and battled it out over an assault bike and burpee box overs play off. Curran and Thompson edged it by a few reps in an electric atmosphere.
CrossFit Limavady co-owner Andy Chapman said: "It was probably the highlight of the weekend. That and the three McClelland sisters from CrossFit Derry, all stepping on the podium in their respective divisions. That was a pretty cool family achievement."
