Church refurbishments fund stolen thumbnailBanagher Parish Church.

BANAGHER Parish Church has been cruelly scammed out of over 80k after fraudsters gained access to the churches computer, stealing money held over for Church refurbishments. The priest was conned after a man, claiming to be an engineer from his broadband provider, rang and swindled 86,000 from the unsuspecting clergyman.
The parish's bank account was raided when the 'engineer' told the priest he needed access to his computer to resolve a technical issue. Parishioners were informed of the scam during Mass on Sunday December 9, and were told the incident was reported to police the previous week.
A spokesperson for the PSNI told The Northern Constitution: "An investigation is ongoing in conjunction with the bank and Action Fraud.
“Scammers are inventive and can be very convincing. Always be wary of any individual that cold calls you and be especially suspicious of anyone who asks for money, banking or credit card information or who asks to gain access remotely to your computer.
