AT the start of 2017, Limavady United were motoring nicely at the top of the Premier Intermediate League, as they headed towards the most memorable season in their history. Fast forward twelve months, and after a wretched December without a point, they are looking at a relegation battle in the new year.
This derby, which was technically Institute's home game, means that United have still to register an away win all season, and the "hosts" can hardly have had an easier win all season.
United were without Hume again, and also missing McFadden from the midfield, and started cautiously against high-flying Stute, well-knowing that their porous defence would be under pressure.
So it must have been galling in the extreme for Paul Owens to see his team concede yet another soft early goal in the ninth minute.
A free kick wide on the right was hoisted into the box by Grace, and Curry was allowed to make a run and connect with the ball to steer it into the net.
It was the faintest of touches- almost an accidental contact, but it would have been preventable by proper marking.
United confidence visibly drained away, and there was a lengthy spell of Stute pressure which created very little to trouble Kelly, though this was more due to the shortcomings of the home attack than a jittery defence which was unable to keep the ball.
On 24 minutes McCrudden skipped into the box and made space to shoot from a tight angle, which Kelly punched up in the air and eventually for a corner.
