‘Thank you’

A Limavady worker has praised the emergency services who rescued his mother from a fire at a sheltered housing development in Portstewart on Boxing Night. In particular, David Gilmour, a researcher at the DUP office in Catherine Street, Limavady, expressed his thanks to the two police officers who carried his mum from the home in her wheelchair.
The drama began when the blaze at a flat at Agherton Grange on Mill Road triggered an automatic alarm at around 7.45pm.
Residents were evacuated to the nearby church hall by staff with the help of fire-fighters who were at the scene in minutes. Crews from five appliances quickly brought the fire under control but an entire wing containing eleven flats was left severely damaged. An investigation has since begun to establish the cause of the fire.
