What a ‘waste’ thumbnailThe Ad plant sited off the Drumreighland Lane.

A CONTROVERSIAL anaerobic digestion plant (AD plant) on the Baranailt Road, Limavady, has been refused a Waste Management License by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA), preventing it from operating any longer. The AD plant has recently been a topic for discussion in relation to another local contentious issue - the pig farm. It is believed the AD plant was constructed to process waste from a proposed pig farm on the Moys Road.
The Public Health Agency (PHA) have confirmed to the Northern Constitution it has written to Causeway Coast and Glens Council planning department expressing safety concerns around the plant.
Gerry Waldron from the PHA said: "The points raised are entirely consistent with the advice I have already given to planning authorities regarding potential adverse health effects of living in close proximity to hazardous activities associated with intensive farming.
