WHEN David Attenborough focused the world's attention on plastic pollution, local viewers may not have realised they're in the front line.
For while the Blue Planet dwelt on the plight of exotic creatures inhabiting far flung realms, there is evidence of blight much closer to home.
On Rathlin, for example, RSPB wardens have logged items swept thousands of miles before washing up on the island's beaches
As council's Environmental Resource Officer, Declan Donnelly explains.
“They've been collecting strange pieces of plastic from the shoreline and placing them on the wall to generate debate.
“They've found plastic from Canada, Turkey and some from Scotland but most of it could be from anywhere.
