SINN Féin Councillor Dermot Nicholl has welcomed traffic calming measures by Transport NI in Greysteel.
Cllr Nicholl said: "I welcome the recent implementations announced by Transport NI to improve road safety in Greysteel. The 40mph speed limit along the Clooney Road will be extended to cover the GAA grounds and a junction near Faughanvale Primary School."
"This is something i have campaigned hard for over recent years after I first brought it to the attention of officials who were unaware that vehicles were entering Greysteel to a 50mph speed limit and further along it drops to 40mph. Given the busy nature of this section of road changes are needed as has been demonstrated with a number of crashes in the Village over the years."
"Additional pedestrian crossing islands will also be added to cater for those walking to the GAA pitch especially children coming from the school to attend training. Hopefully these are constructed in time for the new school year."
He added: "I will continue to work with Transport NI to highlight and improve local traffic management and ensure the best public safety possible."
