Police treating bonfire effigies as hate crime thumbnail

POLICE in Limavady are investigating the displaying and burning of images of a Sinn Fein councillor as a hate crime.
Effigies of Councillor Dermott Nicholl and former East Derry MLA Cathal O'hOisin were placed on the eleventh night bonfire on Greystone Road and set alight.
It has also been confirmed police are investigating the type of materials used on the bonfire.
Inspector Siobhan Watt said: "Police received two reports about material placed on a bonfire on Greystone Road in Limavady on Wednesday, July 11.
“Both incidents are being treated as hate crimes, and enquiries are continuing.
