FIVE weeks since the horror show against Malachians without competitive football were brushed aside by a determined Limavady United side, which ruthlessly crushed their junior opponents on Saturday by six goals to nil.
There were few signs of rustiness from the team after a first minute scare when Gareth McConachie had to clear a shot off the line with Doherty beaten. However nerves were settled within a minute as Davy Patton scored from a rebound after following up his own force shot.
United swarmed around the visitors' goal and after a quarter of an hour Ciaran Clarke missed a great chance to double the lead as his side foot shot was blocked by the keeper. Holywood were still in the contest until the 25th minute when Shane Jennings broke and in a one on one with the advancing keeper chipped the ball over him and into the net. Two minutes later the teenager scored his second with a looping header from the edge of the box to end the contest. On 32 minutes the busy Clarke robbed the fullback and cut the ball back for Owens to stab the ball home for a fourth goal. Lowry then hit a screamer which thumped off the bar with the keeper beaten. Five minutes later McConachie's volley was tipped over the bar.
The second half saw more one way traffic. On 51 minutes Lowry scored the fifth with a diving header from the right post past the helpless goalie. On the hour Jennings was put through but his chance for a hat trick was scuffed and the shot was saved.
Owens was coming more into the game and he was running the right back ragged. On 65 minutes he robbed the defender on the edge of the box but had no one to connect with his low cross. On 75 minutes Lowry hooked a shot that was goal-bound until the keeper pushed the ball over the bar. From the resultant corner Lowry was again denied as his chip was pawed away for another corner.
