Kearney signs off with win

Oran Kearney signed off a successful stint at Limavady United with a win in Banbridge on Saturday.

ORAN Kearney signed off his time as Limavady manager with a hard-fought win in the third round of the Intermediate cup at Crystal Park Banbridge.
United now face Ards Rangers in the fourth round next week, but more importantly need to find a replacement for the highly rated Kearney quickly. Banbridge started the quicker, and Stephen McArdle had a turn and shot after two minutes which Michael Doherty in the visitors' goal tipped over acrobatically. Stefan Campbell then had a free header which he sent wide in the fourth minute.
But he made amends on ten minutes, turning in a close range volley which gave Doherty no chance.
The goal came from bad defending by United, who were caught cold by a darting run down the left wing, and a low cross that was not defended.
United hit back quickly, with Lee Patrick restoring parity three minutes later from a close range header. In United's first attack Clarke took a corner which Hutchinson headed goal-wards from close range, but the home keeper did well to block.
Unfortunately the ball dropped for the waiting Patrick who had the easiest of chances to head in from almost on the goal line.
The rest of the half was even. United had another chance as Patrick fired in a trademark volley from the edge of the box, but it flew over.
Then the home side should have gone ahead again just before the half hour as Limavady's defence was in utter confusion but McCartan shot wide.
Hutchinson hit back with a fine run, and the ball was worked to McCaughan who crossed to Spratt, but his header was blocked. Banbridge substitute Declan McAllister was proving lively, and on 35 minutes he was through on goal but Doherty blocked his shot well with his legs.
