O’Neill at the double as Sky Blues progress thumbnailMagherafelt Sky Blues goal scorers Anthony O'Neill (2), Thomas Beattie (2) and Shane Heavron in their highly entertaining 5-4 victory (after extra time) over Sport & Leisure Swifts in Belfast.

MAGHERAFELT Sky Blues travelled to Belfast on Saturday for a second round tie in the Intermediate Cup against Sport & Leisure and emerged victorious in a thrilling game which had everything.
Manager Pitts was forced into a few personnel changes due to players being unavailable and this led to the first appearance of the season for striker Anthony O'Neill who impressed on his debut. Michael McClean was also in the squad after returning from injury.
A cracking cup tie ensued with nine goals being scored and the Blues leading five times with O'Neill's extra-time strike the all important winner.
A big scalp for the South Derry boys, overcoming IFA Intermediate Division Two opposition, and this will certainly be a big boost for the club progressing to the third round.
On a poor surface, the Blues got off to a great start when Shane Heavron scored after ten minutes with a well-placed shot after rounding the full back.
Within five minutes, the home side had equalised when their number nine scored after good work from the striker. Beattie restored the Blues lead when he calmly fired home after a good build-up between the strikers.
Just before the half-time whistle, Sport & Leisure levelled the score when the Blues conceded a penalty after a rash challenge in the box.
The second half resumed and the Blues were dominant with Larkin in the middle of the park pulling all the strings. His control and technique on a very poor surface was a pleasure to watch. Sky Blues missed a couple of good chances before O'Neill restored their lead when he scored from close in after a defence splitting pass from O'Neill.
