Magilligan MX Park re-opens thumbnailDean Sheridan, Dave Sheridan and Jake Sheridan line up to lead the opening lap at the re-opening of Magilligan MX Park on Saturday. The lap was undertaken at slow speed as a mark of respect to their family member Daniel Sheridan who was tragically killed

IT was entirely fitting that a clear sunny morning should dawn over the Magilligan MX Park as it re-opened on Saturday (December 17) thus lifting the dark cloud that had hung over it since the tragedy in August which claimed the life of Dublin schoolboy Daniel Sheridan. Daniel lost his life in a freak accident at the park and it has been his family's wishes and with their blessing that activities should resume at the practice track which is a firm favourite with motocross enthusiasts all over Ireland.
Credit must be given to organiser Philip McCullough who has been greatly affected by Daniel's death and that much was obvious from the emotional tribute he paid to Daniel during Saturday mornings briefing.
However, in line with the Sheridan family wishes, he has overcome his own reluctance to re-open the track by putting in place a number of safety measures in line with the demands of local authorities and governing bodies.
In going the extra mile with these demands, Mr McCullough has also called in experts from around the UK to advise him on the way forward and indeed on Saturday, he put out a call for any further suggestions for further improvements that could be made on the track before it was officially declared open.
