Rovers secure victory over Limavady Rugby

Thursday, 16 February 2017

ROVERS made another short trip to the Demense for another local derby against Limavady Rugby.
Rugby had started the season as the pace setters with Rovers but had drifted off in recent weeks due to a loss of key players to injury.
The first half was a reasonably drab encounter with the poor surface suiting no one. Rovers best chance came when Brendan 'Foxy' McGonigle was put through one-on-one against the keeper but he rushed his chance and flicked it wide of the advancing keeper.
Rovers did take a slender lead into the break when Conor Mullan, returning from injury, was able to apply a close range finish after a short, well worked corner between father and son Brendan and Jack McGonigle.
Rugby put a lot of effort first half into containing Rovers and this showed as energy drained second half and Jack McGonigle and Joel Cromie tortured the home side second half.
Rovers doubled the lead after 58 minutes with a terrific run from left back from Darell Mulgrew and an even better delivery to Conor Mullan who was free and had lots of time to pick his spot, finishing off his second goal inside of the post. Rugby's goalkeeper had a great game denying Rovers on numerous occasions, two from point blank from Matty Hamilton and Cromie.
