Murphy wins President's Day at Roe Park thumbnailSamuel Murray, winner of the 2017 President's Day trophy, teeing off at the first at the Roe Park Resort.

IT was all systems go last week at Roe Park despite the heavy rain which threatened to derail what turned out to be thankfully a very busy weekend.
Only one day of golfing was lost to the flooding which was remarkable considering the amount of rain that fell, but a huge 'thank you' must go the resort's Green Keepers who work tirelessly maintaining the course throughout the year.
Club President James McGuinness was most thankful for this as he was able to welcome members and guests to play for the fantastic prizes and trophy on offer in what was to be a very busy President's Day.
It was an exciting competition for sure as four players contested the first prize with all scoring 41 points. After count back, it was Sammy Murphy who lifted the much coveted trophy, thanks to a brilliant one over par back nine.
Runner-up Sean Hasson had it in the bag, going up the 16th but played the last three holes in four over par to scupper his chances of victory.
Darren McVeigh did exactly the same thing as playing buddy Sean as he finished third.
The Best Gross score went to Ricky Cochrane who scored a superb one over par round of 71 giving him 35 points. The Senior prize for the Over 60s went to none other than Walter Mullan who has hit some very good form of late as he scored an excellent 39 points.
Eugene McElhinney won the Best Front Nine prize with 22 points and Eamon Brown won the Best Back Nine with the same score. Conor Kelly won the Nearest the Pin with a superb iron shot at the 12th hole.
Contenders
Thursday's Club Stableford saw two of the top four Golfer of the Year contenders finish in the top three to earn some valuable points in the race for the title.
