Christie completes the set thumbnailJohn Christie, winner of the National Hot Rod British Championship at Tullyroan on Sunday, receives the trophy and a new tyre from Thomas Dilly with grid girls Paula Currie and Hayley Bevan.

IN winning the 2017 British championship at Tullyroan on Sunday, John Christie completed the set of winning all the National Hot Rod major titles (World, National, European, and Irish Open) in his racing career.
The public draw for the 2017 National Hot Rod British Championship threw up the mouth-watering prospect of two of the sports top talents alongside each other for Heat One. It was crowd-favourite driver John Christie who netted the coveted pole position with current world champion and newly crowned National Champion Chris Haird alongside.
At the green flag, the dice between the pair didn't disappoint as Haird got a slight advantage into turns one and two and then attempted to squeeze in front of Christie on the back straight; the two momentarily touched before Christie managed to keep the upper hand.
Whilst most eyes in the packed stadium were undoubtedly on that battle for the lead, further back, there had been a big coming together in turn one.
A race stoppage was called for and four cars were eliminated from the restart with damage, including Keith Martin, Les Compelli, Chris Crane and Andy Stewart.
Before the restart, Derek Martin was then disqualified from taking part as he was held responsible for the multi-car pile up.
