Heartache for Limavady Wolfhounds thumbnailDerry GAA chairman Brian Smith presents the Junior Football Championship Cup to Tomas McCrossan, captain of Doire Trasna, following the final against Limavady Wolfhounds at Celtic Park

LIMAVADY may have trailed at the interval by 2-2 to 0-6 but on the balance of play, they had every chance to be in front against the physically impressive Waterside men in a hugely entertaining half hour of football.

They did not get a good start to the second half as Trasna bulked up their defence and simply swallowed up Limavady’s forwards in their rare attacks.

With big Eoghan Carlin playing the perfect sweeper role, the smallish Wolfhounds forwards were running into a brick wall of defenders with the imposing Carlin their pillar at the back.

Midfield was an area where the Wolfhounds struggled to get a grip in the second half and their cause was not helped by an injury to their tallest player Jack Deery.

As the half progressed, Doire Trasna used their greater experience to punch holes in the Limavady defence and pick off match winning scores.
