AN early goal from Glenn Law was enough to give United the points in a game that will not live long in the memory of those who attended a blustery Rathmore Road. However the Roesiders rode their luck at times and were clearly nervous as the visitors had more of the possession but lacked any form of goal threat. No matter, as even this early in the season, this was a game that United needed to win and the bonus of a clean sheet will cheer the management.
United were given the best possible start as, once again, they scored early with the only goal arriving in the third minute.
A move down the right end with the ball into the box was only partially cleared and fell to Law who was unmarked on the edge of the box.
He had enough composure to take a touch before unleashing an unstoppable effort high into the net.
United were lifted and had another chance four minutes later but the long range effort from Owens' free kick was well off target.
Two minutes later, Hume nipped in behind a defender and attempted to chip Buchanan but the ball screwed wide of the post.
Having ridden the storm, Dergview came back strongly into the game and thought they had equalised in the 17th minute when Arkinson lashed a shot into the net which deflected off Campbell who was rather harshly ruled to have been offside.
