YOUNG runners from two primary schools in Eglinton competed in the first round of the Flahavan's Porridge Primary School Cross Country League, hoping to join the NI Cross Country squad. Taking place at Thornhill College, Londonderry, Broadbridge Primary School and Eglington Primary School competed in various races, on Monday November 13.
John Martin from Broadbridge finished first place taking gold in the boys race, in the girls race Ava Colgan from Eglington PS and Anna Selvin from Broadridge finished in second and third places respectively.
In the fun run Broadridge had even more success with Jack Peace storming home to take the win.
This is the first round of the championships this season which is set to be its biggest one yet with over 200 schools set to compete and the number of competitor to beat out last years 6500.
Following the finals of the event the top 20 girls and boys will be offered a spot to join the NI Junior Cross Country Squad, the second round of races will take place on December 1.
