Inspirational McGuckin on fire for blues thumbnailEmmet McGuckin.

Trojans..............2 Magherafelt Sky Blues............4

MAGHERAFELT Sky Blues maintained their grip on pole position in NI Intermediate League and also their fine unbeaten start to the season with an excellent win away to a strong Trojans in the Maiden City. A fine first half brace from Man of the Match Emmet McGuckin set the South Derry boys on their way to a thoroughly deserved 4-2 victory away to Trojans at a wet Oakland Park in Creggan, Derry City on Saturday afternoon.
It was always going to be a tough test for the Magherafelt boys in the Maiden City against a talented Trojans who set the early tempo, pressing strongly for the opener and the Blues were forced to defend resolutely.
Defending doggedly, the Blues spotted an opportunity to break quickly with Darren O'Neill playing a delightful defence splitting pass to Emmet McGuckin just over the half way line, and there was no way he was going to be caught as he left the home defence trailing in his wake before calmly slotting home to fire the Blues in front.
The second goal from McGuckin was quite similar but this time, it came from a long throw from Devine, deep inside his own half, which was flicked on by strike partner Wilkinson which sent McGuckin away to race home and fire an unstoppable shot to the back of the Trojans net.
