Larne..............2 Limavady United...........1

ANOTHER defeat for Limavady United, this time at much vaunted Larne, but a vastly improved performance full of courage, skill and endeavour. The team that United fielded was not only shorn of, arguably, its spine in three key players - Watt, Crown and Hume, but featured two players making their first starts this season in Murray and McClelland and a makeshift back four.
Add in to the mix last week's demoralising display and the manager's harsh assessment of some players' commitment, if ever a team was there for the taking, surely it was United.
But what actually transpired on Saturday was a team which featured two centre halves who were struggling for fitness and which lost Ryan Logue early in the game, recovered from conceding an early goal to dominate the game and only lose in heartbreaking fashion to a late wonder strike when it seemed they were on the cusp of a deserved point at the very least.
United games seem to always produce an early goal and this time it took only three minutes for the hosts to take the lead through David Abe who caught United sleeping as he loped through the visitors' retreating defence before shooting into the corner before Wells could react.
Larne scented blood and for ten minutes, they pushed hard for a second goal. United were reeling and Kottoy was unlucky to see his effort deflected off his own player. Then Abe was guilty of a bad miss when he connived to head a cross wide when it was surely easier to score.
