THE Junior productions contested their Tullyroan Challenge Cup on Saturday night with Drew McKeown on track to defend his title.
The reverse grid draw saw Ballykelly race ace Matthew Nicholl line up in last place for Heat One and good progress through the pack saw the teenager finish an excellent fifth as they crossed the line.
The reversed grid saw Matthew in pole position for Heat Ywo and he quickly took the lead at the green flag. Whilst under pressure from Sam McNeice, he remained steadfast in the lead until the chequered flag for the win.
Courtesy of his two second places in the heats, it was McNeice who lined up on pole position for the Challenge Cup trophy race with Matthew on his outside, whilst the in-form driver and defending champion, Drew McKeown started third. At the greens, Matthew made a poor start as the car 'bogged' down and in an instant, he was relegated to fourth as McNeice took the lead, followed by McKeown and Graham Meek.
Matthew piled the pressure on Meek during the opening laps and took advantage when Meek ran wide on turn four to take third. McNeice rounded out the laps for a fine win in a very close
race from his pursers.
